Background

I grew up around construction — family in the business, family running a company, and a lifetime of being shown how to do it right. I could build my own house tomorrow and not lose sleep over it.

For the last four years I’ve been a mechanic specializing in custom motor swaps, fabrication, and restoration work. On my own time I’ve taught myself tube and plate bumpers, body work, MIG/TIG welding, and Fusion 360 so I can design jobs before I cut metal.

Construction Management is where the trades I love and the way I think about a project line up. I’d be a tradesman if I weren’t headed here, and I bring that mindset to every estimate, sequence, and field decision. I’m looking for a full-time role starting Fall 2027 where I can put hands on the work and earn my way to running a job.

From the shop to the jobsite.

Nobody hires a fabricator to run a schedule. But the habits carry: sequence the work, hold the tolerance, own the rework. Here’s how four years on the tools translates.

Field Engineer Intern

Summer 2026
Level 10 Construction · San Jose, CA · 1,280-stall garage, abatement & demo
  • Created the site logistics plan and haul routes for demolition of three high-rises covering 75% of a downtown San Jose city block.
  • Ran QA/QC on 30+ rebar details through foundation and slab pours, checking placement against approved shop drawings ahead of inspection.
  • Tracked and labeled 1,000+ embeds from delivery to installation, keeping the placement log current for every pour.
  • Mapped 30+ overhead utilities across several thousand SF of below-grade structure to scope pre-demolition air gaps and shut-offs.
  • Walked the site daily with the superintendent, logging schedule duration changes and flagging conflicts before they hit the critical path.
  • Wrote daily reports and photo logs and moved RFIs and submittals between the field and the office.

Technician / Fabricator

Feb 2023 -- Present
Nelson’s Garage · Cayucos, CA · Restoration and custom fabrication
  • Led the full custom build of a 1986 Ford Bronco -- suspension and brakes through fitting a $30,000 modern engine and transmission package.
  • Led frame-off restorations valued over $100K -- sequenced the work, ran parts takeoffs and ordering, and managed fitment from teardown through paint.
  • Fabricate to print and to spec: MIG/TIG welding, tube and plate work, exhaust builds, and body work, designing in Fusion 360 and cutting it right the first time.
  • Rebuild differentials and transfer cases and run custom wiring on high-dollar vehicles the shop trusts to few people.
  • Diagnose problems with no manual to follow -- the same instinct a CM needs when a field condition does not match the plan.
  • Advanced from new hire to a lead role on the shop’s highest-value work.

My parents bought a house with no running water and not much else. My dad and I built the front porch overhang: 6x6 DF#1 posts, T&G ceiling, fully roofed and flashed to code.

The first metal project I ever built. 1/4” plate and 1-3/4” DOM tube, every dimension measured off the truck and fit around the winch, lights and body panels.

Hitch-Mount Dirt Bike Rack

Modeled in Fusion 360 down to the inch before any steel got cut — every angle and dimension on the built rack came straight off the model. Built to carry a dirt bike through real off-road, not just down the highway.

1987 Suzuki Samurai with a Toyota pickup drivetrain and axles under it — my brother’s and my off-road project. Engine is mounted and most of the wiring is done.
